‘why was no sympathy shown by the president on the killing of Tamil civilians?’ is it because they were Tamil Civilians?.

President Mahinda  Rajapaksa  addressing the Victory Day pared at the Galle Face Green said that only agreeable recommendations in the LLRC Report will be implemented (which will help keep his government in power!).

The President also rejected international calls to withdraw troops from the country’s former war zones where Tamils live, warning that the LTTE diaspora had not given up separatism so the Militarisation will continue in Tamil areas.

“Some are shouting remove military camps from the north and east,” Mr Rajapaksa said at the ceremony to mark ‘victory day’ on the third anniversary of crushing of the Tamil Tigers and killing  of Over 50 000 Tamil Civilians in May 16-18, 2009Claiming that “the LTTE diaspora had not given up their separatist ideas, ” the President said, “We cannot jeopardise national security by removing camps from Tamil areas.” Continue reading

High Security Zones will NOT be dismantle says SL Minister

Minister Samarasinghe has said that it is not the intention of his government to dismantle the High Security Zones.  It is learnt he said this in answer to a question at a meeting he held on 10 May 2012 in Melbourne, Australia.

In the explanation for this stance by the government, Minister Samarasinghe has said that the LTTE was defeated at a heavy cost to the people of Sri Lanka, and it is not intended to give any quarter for them to become active as there are some diaspora groups who are willing to supply arms and fund them to meddle in the internal affairs of the country.  The High Security Zones, particularly along the coastal belt, are required to block out and prevent any illegal dumping of arms and ammunition to the regrouping LTTE cadres.  Although it would deprive the people who owned and occupied these lands, their concerns cannot override when the attempts at regrouping by LTTE need to be eliminated.  The government will look at some compensation for the lands affected, but there is no way the security zones will be dismantled.  This position of the government is emphatic, he is supposed have said. Action against those who disrespect Buddhist flag but NO action against people who damaged Muslim mosques or Hindu Temples.

The Sri Lankan Government has issued a circular informing all Divisional Secretaries and Officers-in-Charge of police stations to take legal action against those who disrespect the Buddhist flag but they should NOT take any legal action against Buddhist who damage Muslim mosques or Hindu Temple.

The Prime Minister ordered the mosque’s relocation on Sunday, following an attack on the mosque on Friday by hardline Buddhists, including monks and interestingly the attack on the mosque was watched by the SL Army and police and no one was arrested. It is believed that the extremists who work in collusion with bankrupt Government politicians wishing to create religious, ethnic and other strife in society so that they can emerge as ethnic/religious saviours creating a new voter bank by taking advantage of an artificially created trouble. DMK pulls out of MPs delegation to Sri Lanka

With the DMK ruling out its participation, the present delegation, which is visiting the neighbouring country from April 16-22, is now void of representation from the two big parties in the state as the ruling AIADMK has already pulled out its representative.

DMK President M. Karunanidhi on Sunday ruled out his party’s presence in a Parliamentary delegation visiting Sri Lanka this week to assess the rehabilitation and political process, saying the visiting schedule  sent by External Affairs Ministry showed that the proposed visitors are meeting pro government groups and are not meeting war effected Tamils without the supervision of the Army and it also took that past experiences showed that there was no use of such visits.  Continue reading

Rajapakshe made a fool of the world leaders and wants the journalists to support him!

How can these Journalist  Write  good things about this government?
The President of Sri Lanka has urged journalists in the island to focus on what he called as positive news rather than focusing on negative aspects. The president Mahinda Rajapaksa made the appeal as he declared open a new Media Development Centre at the Information Department in Colombo.
  • But unfortunatly more lying by President and Government Ministers are taking place in Sri Lanka than positive in Sri Lanka.
  • Most part of Tamil areas are militarized.
  • Anti government members are abducted in White Vans with the blessing of SL Forces.
  • No sign of implementing the promised 13+ Political package by the Lying president.   Hence how can these Journalist  Write  good things about the government.

President Mahinda Rajapakshe made a fool of the world leaders when he promised to implement the ’13 plus’ Political package once the LTTE was killed and it was no secret that the world leaders including US and India turned a blind eye when more than 40,000 Tamil Civilians were killed by the Sri Lankan  forces. Not to forget that LTTE leaders who surrendered with white flags were killed in too by the Sri Lankan forces. Continue reading

Don’t forget India’s support in the war against the Tamils – SL Minister Dullas

Sri Lanka should not forget India’s support in killing the LTTE amidst protest by court closures and protests by lawyers and artistes in South India, although it had to support the US-led resolution at the UNHRC due to DMK leader M. Karunanidhi’s threat to pull out of the UPA government, said minister Dullas Alahapperuma. He was speaking at a certificate awarding function organized by the National Youth Corps and Sabaragamuwa University.

In the final war in May 2009 more than 100,000 Tamil Civilians were killed by the Sri Lankan forces with the help of Indian government supplying arms and trained forces to kill the Tamil Civilians and LTTE Leaders who surrendered with white flag after UN negotiated the surrender. Continue reading

Thinks the Rajapakshes say in secret to their close supporters.

  • ”I will have to use the Green card if we don’t say that LTTE is active’,
  • ‘’LTTE Threat persists but situation under control’,
  • ”We will kill the 200 LTTE leaders we hold in the secret camps’
  • ”We will kill more Tamil civilians if they ask for equal rights’

Thinks the Rajapakshes say in secret to their close supporters?.

About 11,000 LTTE cadres who either surrendered to the security forces or were captured during the war had been rehabilitated and reunited with their families and about 3,800 out of 4,000 LTTE detainees had been released; about 4,000 LTTE members who had escaped were still at large, the Defence Secretary said yesterday. Can Sri Lanka achieve reconciliation?

Can Sri Lanka achieve reconciliation?

 VIDEOCan Sri Lanka achieve reconciliation?
We ask if the government is committed to harmony as alleged evidence of war crimes against Tamils airs on British TV.
It was a civil war that ravaged Sri Lanka for almost 30 years. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed, many of them civilians. And now damning evidence in a documentary aired in Britain alleges that the Sri Lankan government did, in fact, commit war crimes.

I think you’re talking absolute rubbish. I have to rebut charges that are false. We do have inquiries that are going on internally. I don’t know why you think external inquiries are independent.”- Rajiva Wijesinha, a Sri Lankan MP

”David Cameron’s Government simply hasn’t done enough” says Gareth Thomas MP

The Channel 4 documentaries about the scale of war crimes in Sri Lanka, the second of which was shown last night, have been truly shocking and breathtaking.

There can be little doubt left that a full and independent investigation into human rights abuses now and during the recent conflict is overdue.

David Cameron’s Government simply hasn’t done enough to demand a full and proper investigation by the United Nations. It’s time he and William Hague stopped standing on the sidelines and got involved in the fight for justice for all those victims of human rights abuses in Sri Lanka.   Continue reading

By Thusiyanthan

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in the U.K Dr. Chris Nonis called on the Conservative Foreign and Commonwealth Council  to look beyond the inflammatory rhetoric of the agents of separatism with collateral agendas, and to make sure that the people of the UK do not fall prey to covert pressure from extremely well-funded lobby groups who use coercive measures for fundraising, and subsequently use their funds to influence opinion leaders, think tanks, and legislators, who are in reality surrogates for the extreme rump of terrorism.

Tomorrow we celebrate Sri Lanka’s 64th year of independence from the British colonial imperialists. However it is important for us as Sri Lankans to open our eyes wide and take note of the ground realities which has taken effect on our island nation since our “so called” independence.
Questions have often arisen as to whether we Sri Lankan’s had really won our national freedom from the hands of the then bankrupt British imperial colonialists unlike our neighbour India. Continue reading

The Victor’s History

‘History will find you wrong because I shall write that history’ – Winston Churchill is supposed to have told British Prime Minister Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin during an exchange in the House of Commons in the 1930’s.

In Sri Lanka, the history of the Eelam War is being written (and re-written) by its victors, the Rajapaksa Siblings. This ‘victor’s history’ will be a Sinhala supremacist and a Rajapaksa supremacist narrative, with Sinhala spinelessness and Rajapaksa infallibility as its main axioms.

According to this revanchist history, Tiger separatist-terrorism would be the main cause of the Eelam War, with Tamil ultra-nationalism and Indian/Western machinations playing a supplementary role. Majoritarian errors and crimes, such as the Sinhala Only, anti-Tamil riots (including the Black July) or the media-wise standardisation will not figure in this narrative. Nor will there be any mention of the violent Sinhala responses to non-violent protests by democratic Tamils, starting with the attack by a Sinhala mob on the 300 plus members of the Federal Party who were engaged in a peaceful sit-in against the ‘Sinhala Only Act’ at the Galle Face Green. Not only did the police watched impassively as the unarmed Tamil protestors were ‘kicked, beaten and spat upon’; when the injured Federal Party MPs entered the parliament that evening with ‘blood-stained bandages’, Prime Minister SWRD Bandaranaike quipped loudly, “Honourable wounds of war!” (quoted in‘Tigers of Sri Lanka’ by MR Narayan Swami). The fate of the Bandaranaike-Chelvanayagam Pact and the Dudley-Chelvanayagam Pact (destroyed by Sinhala extremism) will not merit mention either. Continue reading

SRI LANKA- Update No. 21: Chandrika proposes and the Maha Sangha disposes

SRI LANKA- Update No. 21: Chandrika proposes and the Maha Sangha disposes

by Dr. S.Chandrasekharan

“In effect, Sinhala Buddhist Hegemonism has vetoed the legitimate rights of the Tamil people.” D.B.S.Jeyaraj in Sunday Leader of 13th August, 2000.

Constitutional Reforms abandoned:  The statement of D.B.S.Jeyaraj succinctly expresses the agony of the Tamils from the day the Sri Lankan government introduced “Sinhala only Act” in 1956. It was a repetition of sorts when Chandrika’s father Bandaranaike tore up the agreement between himself and the Tamil leader Chelvanayagam known as BC Pact, when more than 200 monks and 300 others marched to his Rosemead Palace in protest against the agreement. President misleads the Tamil Diaspora as Political solution delayed again!

The President’s statement that the only political solution to the ethnic issue should be proposed by a parliamentary select committee at a meeting with media heads was a clear indication that his promised ’13+ Political package’ he had promised to implement once the LTTE was killed was a lie and he cheated the UN and the Indian government as he had no intention of implementing a ’13+ political package’ once the killing of Tamils.

The President had said that he would not implement any other proposal other than the one presented by the parliamentary select committee. Then why was he talking to the Tamil political leaders of a Political Package?

President Rajapakshe and his brothers who have killed more than 100,000 Tamil civilians during his last 6 years of ruling are known racists and do not have the guts to even implement the current constitution in full, it is believed that they are  trying to buy time to getaway  from the war crimes they did. Who is this? What is he doing? Prof Rohan Gunaratne exposed

  • India is not the only country Prof. Gunaratne cannot travel to.
  • He was arrested in Indonesia and deported in May 2005.
  • The Indian delegation was not happy with Prof. Gunaratne, and confined to be headed by a Colonel, nearly staged a walk out.
  • “We brought pressure on them not to do so because we enjoyed very close relations between our countries. Also, India helped us most to win the war,”
  • Prof. Gunaratne was working out a deal to help Gotabaya Rajapaksa to travel to the United States after his son’s wedding in Colombo on 30 June.

Sri Lanka government recently held a seminar in Colombo to tell the world how they defeated the Tamil Tigers. Sri Lanka wanted the world to learn their military strategies, tactics and doctrine so they could win their own wars.

However, the wider audience to whom the battlefield success stories were to be related boycotted the event or sent low-level delegations. Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksha himself admitted that the seminar was a failure as a result of the boycott. With the exception of Defence Attache of the US embassy in Colombo, Lt. Col. Lawrence Smith, whom the US said was sent as a “note taker,” there was no one representing the world’s largest and most powerful military. Rajapakse and the return of dissent

The last two months in Sri Lanka have seen increasing international pressure coupled with domestic struggles against Mahinda Rajapakse’s government. In fact, in the post-war context, other than perhaps General Sarath Fonseka’s challenge during the presidential elections of January 2010, which split the war coalition in the south, these recent weeks have been among the most worrying of times for the Rajapakse regime. International criticism centring on questions of post-war accountability and political reconciliation has suddenly coincided with anti-government domestic mobilisations by a range of actors – from workers challenging the government’s pension schemes, estate workers calling for wage hikes, university teachers moving on strike actions and student unions opposing leadership training by the military for university entrants…………… read more

Give it in writing, TNA tells govt. (Rajapakshe Family is Not trustworthy!)

The government’s response to the basis of the talks should be given in writing for progressive discussions, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) said.

The TNA and the government met on June 23 as part of a series of talks between the two parties since February this year. It is due to the President Mahinda Rajapakshe who promised to implement a 13+ Political Package  before the last days  of Killing of LTTE and more than 40,000 Tamil Civilians by his Sinhale Army has now changed his mind. Currently the President Rajapakshe is not even going to implement the CURRENT constitution in full and he is considering ’13-’ political package as an eye wash to the world.

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa order is an eye wash!

Defence Secy orders probe AGAINST HIS OWN MEN?

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa directed Jaffna Army Commander Major General Mahinda Haturusinghe to inquire into an incident where a group of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarians was attacked by members of Army while attending a meeting.

Tamils in Jaffna who are under army control at the rate of one army to every 13 Tamils living in Jaffna feel that the members of the Army who attacked the Tamil MP’s in Jaffna cannot leave the area which has a check point in every junction in Jaffna hence the  Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa  is only fooling the western world by ordering an inquiry on his own men who attacked the Tamil MP’s. It is firmly belived that this order was an eye wash to the world and no one will be arrested or taken into custody by the Police or Army in Jaffna who are all Sinhalese. Continue reading

Mahinda Government continues to cheat the Tamils of the promised 13+Political Package

”At every meeting we have been waiting for the government to announce it response to the draft we had forwarded. But, each time we are told that the response would be announced at the next meeting” says TNA Parliamentarian M. A. Sumanthiran .

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) left the sixth round of Bi-partisan talks, with the government yesterday, disappointed as the latter had once again not responded to its draft on devolution, TNA sources said.

A TNA Parliamentarian who wished to remain anonymous said that if one were to use a popular but common Sinhala saying, “It has been a case of Balagiri Dosaya Adha Nevai Heta (a continuing case of postponement, not today, but tomorrow). Current Mahinda Rajapakshe government is known as a racist government who killed more than 40,000 Tamil CIVILIANS in may 2009 and killed LTTE Leaders who after negotiating with UN surrendered with white flag. The talks with the Tamil MP’s is made as an eye wash to avoid the War crime accusation on the government leaders. The UN looked away when the SL Government killed more than 40,000 Tamil civilians in May 2009 on the belief that President Mahinda will implement the promised 13+ amendment political package. But President Rajapakshe is a another Karunanithy of TN who is interested only in making money for his family members and promoting his son to be the next president of Sri Lanka. He will achieve this only by allying to the Sinhala extremist groups like JHU. Continue reading

“We want the government to go beyond the 13th Amendment in the devolution of power” – Minister and EPDP Leader Douglas Devananda

“We want the government to go beyond the 13th Amendment in the devolution of power” – Minister and EPDP Leader Douglas Devananda

”We will NOT even implement the current 13th amendment in the constitution” – President Mahinda Rajapakshe

Minister and EPDP Leader Douglas Devananda said he submitted his proposals to the government at a recent meeting. He said he had called for the full implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution as an initial step in evolving a political solution, WHICH THE THE SINHALA GOVERNMENTS HAD NOT DONE SINCE 1987.

The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakshe promised to implement ”13+ amendments to the constitution” before the killing of more  than 40,000 Tamil Civilians and LTTE Leaders who surrendered with white flag after UN negotiation in May 2009 to the world leaders.
